So, I've set up 3 interviews for my project so far that I'm really excited about!
* Alyssa Smith: a third year law student at California Western School of Law. Her focus is in Employment Law and she is also my mentor for the A.I.M. 4 Law program. I'm hoping to get a student perspective to determine if dialogical argumentation is taught or even
touched upon while receiving an education in law.
* Leslie P. Culver: Legal Writing Professor at California Western School of Law. Professor Culver is also the Program Director for the A.I.M. 4 Law Diversity Program. Her passion lies in teaching law students to develop their oral advocacy skills. She has also developed the theory of conscious identity performance which combine tenets of identity performance found in critical race theory with identity theories found in feminist communication and social science disciplines. With her expertise, I'm hoping to gain some insight on how dialogic argumentation, when present in the legal atmosphere, needs to be adjusted (if at all), when dealing with members of differing backgrounds.
Thomas D. Barton: Professor of Law. OK, I'm not gonna lie, this guy really intimidates me. He received his Juris Doctorate from Cornell University and his Ph.D. in law from Cambridge. He is also the Co-Director for the Center for Creative Problem Solving. THIS is the guy to talk to about dialogical argumentation! This program focuses on the future of attorneys and "the consequences of confronting [those] problems in solely adversarial ways." In speaking with Professor Barton, I cannot imagine any facet of my project that he could not contribute an immense amount of information on. I really am lucky to have stumbled upon this man.
